Spanish

Why take the Spanish Placement/Challenge Exam?

  • You DO NOT already have credit for a Spanish course on your PAWS report, but have studied Spanish in the past five years or are a native speaker.
  • Note: If you are not a native speaker and have not taken Spanish in the last five years, a Spanish Placement exam is not required. You may begin at Spanish 101.

IMPORTANT – PLACEMENT TEST IS REQUIRED if you have ANY knowledge of the Spanish language and do not have credit on your PAWS report for the Prerequisite(s) for a course. If you attend the first day of class and you have NOT taken the Placement Exam, you will NOT be allowed to remain in class. You will have to wait until the following quarter to enroll in a Spanish class, after you have taken the Placement Exam.

If you do have credit on your PAWS report for a Spanish course (i.e. AP exam, transferred course, or CSUSB Spanish course), then you cannot take the Spanish Placement Exam.

The Challenge Exam is the same exam as the Spanish Placement Exam.  On the day of the test, you may choose to challenge Spanish 103 by completing a blue Challenge By Exam form.  If you pass, then, you will receive credit for Spanish 103.

Note: Exams taken after census date will be processed the following quarter in which you are enrolled.  The four units credit received for Spanish 103 do not count towards full time enrollment.
