Kareen Gervasi, Assistant Professor

Obtained BA  in Humanities and a Licentiate in Spanish, Linguistics from Pontifical Catholic University of Lima, Peru.
Obtained Masters degree in 1994 (University of Southern Califronia)
Obtained PhD degree in 2000 (University of Southern California)
For three years I taught and performed research as an Assistant Professor of Spanish and Spanish Linguistics in the Dept of Modern Languages and Literatures in the University of Central Florida (Orlando, FL)

My areas of interest and specialization are Sociolinguistics, Semantics, Pragmatics, Discourse Analysis, study of Languages in Contact and Language and Ideology in the media and Political Discourse.

Language: Spanish and Spanish Linguistics

Courses: Upper division and Lower Division course, as well as Graduate classes in the areas of Spanish and Spanish Linguistics.

Research Activities: Post Employment: “The use of Spanish Impersonal Forms in Monolingual and Bilingual Speech”. Hispania , ISSN 0018-2133, Vol. 90, No 2, 2007, p 342-353. (Attachments B1 and B2).

Service/Public Committees: Currently Assistant Coordinator of the Spanish Masters Program in the Dept of World Languages and Literatures (will be Coordinator starting  the  Spring quarter 2008). Member of the Advisory Committee of the Latin American Studies Minor in California State University, San Bernardino.
