Carmen Jany, Assistant Professor of Spanish and Linguistics

It is very exciting to learn and learn about a variety of languages and cultures, to discover what all languages share and how they can differ, and to explore the world view of others. One of my goals is to share these exciting activities with my students.

Language: Spanish Linguistics (Sociolinguistics), Linguistics (Typology, Phonetics and Phonology, Second Language Acquisition), Native American languages

Courses : Spanish 516F (Culture); Flan 350/English 312 (Language Acquisition)

Research Activities: Native American languages: Chimariko Grammar, Documentation of Chuxnabán Mixe (Online Dictionary and Grammar)
Sociolinguistics and Bilingualism: Puerto Rican Spanish and Spanish in the USLinguistics: Typology and Phonetics/Phonology (in particular Stress systems); Language Maintenance and Revitalization (Native American languages)

Service/Public Committees: IEFLA Board Member; CASLA Board Member; Teacher Credentialing
