Japanese Studies at CSUSB
Why Study Japanese?
There are many reasons to study Japanese, but one of the most important ones at the present time is that the global marketplace is becoming bigger and, as a result, the need for speakers of languages other than English (particularly as translators or interpreters) is increasing. Currently, U.S. federal statistics indicate that more than 31,000 individuals work as translators or interpreters in schools, health care, courts, airlines, and telecommunications. Further, due to the expansion of global commerce, the industry is expected to increase 26 percent in the next eight years!
What are Japanese classes like at CSUSB?
Classes are small, so individual attention is high. What’s more, the Department of World Languages & Literatures provides students with many resources to facilitate learning Japanese, such as: a state-of-the-art language lab, software programs, videos, newspapers & magazines, and tutors. Moreover, our instructors are all experienced in creating classroom environments that will encourage and stimulate you to speak Japanese with confidence. Even if you have no experience in learning a foreign language or if you've had bad experiences in the past studying other languages, try studying Japanese. Our faculty will show you how rewarding language learning can be!
