TENURE-TRACK FACULTY

Terri Nelson

Terri Nelson completed her doctoral degree at Northwestern University after a lengthy career as a student. Her multiple degrees include a Bachelor's in Biology, a Bachelor's in French (both from the University of Utah), a Master's in French (Middlebury College) and a Political Science Certificate (Institut de Sciences Politique, Paris), as well as various and sundry other studies along the way. Her special area of interest in understanding how students learn new languages and in developing multimedia materials to facilitate learning. She has been a professor at CSUSB since 1995. Aurora Wolfgang
Aurora Wolfgang completed her Ph.D. at New York University and has spent many years studying in France. She completed her undergraduate work in French at UC, Santa Cruz where she was also on the school basketball team; she is proud of her banana slug heritage (the school mascot). Her research focus is on women writers from 17th and 18th century France (see the News announcement about the recent publication of her book). She has been a professor at CSUSB since 1993. Prof. Martin

Elizabeth Martin received her Ph.D. in French from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Her research interests include language contact in media, language policy and planning, and language for specific purposes (LSP).  She has published on various topics in sociolinguistics and French for the professions and has a particular passion for teaching courses across disciplines, including Business French and French for Advertising. She is also an accomplished flutist with a degree from the Rouen Conservatory of Music in France.  She has been in the Department of World Languages and Literatures since in 2007. ADJUNCT FACULTY
Mary Ann McGuire
Mary Ann McGuire completed her Bachelor's degree at Cal State San Bernardino then pursued her Master's degree at the University of California at Riverside. She is also a certified Artist's Way at Work Facilitator and is very interested in inspiring creativity at work and in the classroom. She plays congas and guitar (and is especially known at CSUSB for bringing her guitar to class and singing with her students!). She also sings in a band called Ellipse which plays at Borders and various other places. She has been lecturing at Cal State, San Bernardino for about 15 years sharing her joy for French (and music) with her students.
Valerie Morgan
Valérie Morgan completed her first Master’s degree in English literature and culture at the University of Lyon. She subsequently moved to England where she primarely taught French conversation and business French in companies around London. After completing a second Master’s degree in French linguistics at the university of Grenoble, she and her family came to the United States. She has taught at Crafton Hill College and the University of California Riverside. She has been lecturing at Cal State San Bernardino for over a year. She occasionally co-hosts the French film venues at the Coffee Depot in Riverside.
Diana Pelletier
Dianna Pelletier completed her Master's in Education at CSUSB, as well as BAs in both French and English and teaching credentials for French and English. Her interest in French stems from her childhood in francophone Maine. Many students know her from Academic Advising or from the numerous Study Skills workshops she gives on campus and within the Inland Empire. In her rare spare time, she likes to write poetry.

 

FORMER FACULTY UPDATES

  • Jacques Benzakein is now Professor Emeritus.
  • Ruth Burke is still at CSUSB but her primary teaching role is now in German and in the Honors Program.
  • Pierrette Serna passed away in April 2001 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is greatly missed.
  • Richard Switzer passed away in October 1995. He is affectionately remembered as a colleague. His generous donation to the university has funded the Switzer Scholarship for French study abroad.
